What is the difference between buying from a private seller and a dealer?
Private sellers are individuals selling their personal bikes and offer a personal approach and direct communication. In contrast, dealers are people or businesses specializing in the resale of goods or services, often providing a large selection and a professional approach to transactions. -
Who can buy a bike?
Anyone aged 16 or older can buy a bike; minors can do so with the help of their parents. -
Do you inspect the bikes?
By verifying the sellers, we ensure that you can trust the listings. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to inspect all bikes ourselves. However, sellers can specify in the listing whether they still have the purchase receipt and provide the individual frame number. You can see in each listing whether these details have been provided. The verification badge in the listing assures you that the seller has been verified with a valid official ID document.
Buying Process
-
Why do I need to pay the deposit?
We require a deposit to ensure genuine purchase intent and facilitate the secure exchange of information (phone number, email address, and name) between the buyer and seller. Don't worry; the deposit is non-binding for you, and you can cancel the purchase at any time as long as you haven't confirmed it. If something about the bike is not right for you, the deposit, including the buyer protection fee, will be refunded. -
Why am I asked to pay directly online?
By paying directly through our platform, you avoid lengthy negotiations with strangers or risky money exchanges. Our system provides both you and the seller with the security needed to reserve the bike for you. Important: you are not obligated to take the bike. The money remains with us until you have seen, tested, and approved the bike. Only then do we transfer the money to the seller. If you don’t like the bike, you will receive a full refund. -
Can I view and test ride the bike before purchasing?
Of course! The deposit you make when reserving is only a temporary payment that we place in a neutral account. Technically, you are not purchasing the bike (yet). Once you have seen, tested, and approved the bike, you confirm the reservation and pay the remaining balance. Only then do we transfer the money to the seller. If you cancel the reservation, we will refund your deposit, including the buyer protection fee. -
How long is the bike reserved for?
The bike is reserved for a flexible period, usually between 5 and 10 days and sometimes up to 14 days. We coordinate with both parties to ensure a reasonable time frame and smooth transaction. -
Am I obligated to buy the reserved bike?
No, you are not obligated to buy the reserved bike. The money remains with us until you have seen, tried, and approved the bike. Only then do we transfer the money to the seller. If you do not like the bike, you will receive the full amount back. -
What if the bike does not meet my expectations?
It may happen that the bike doesn’t suit you. In this case, please request the cancellation of your reservation via the link you received when completing the reservation or through your profile on velocorner.ch. -
Can I pay cash?
Although paying the second part of the amount in cash is technically possible, we advise against it. The online payment through our platform offers you a secure payment option. This way, you don’t need to carry cash unnecessarily, and you can prove the payment of the remaining amount at any time. Even with an online payment, the seller immediately receives a confirmation from us as soon as our payment system registers the payment, which usually happens within a minute. -
What should I ask or test during the inspection before buying a used bike?
Here are some questions you can ask the seller. However, keep in mind that everyone has a different level of knowledge about bicycles, so it's normal if the seller can't provide an answer to certain questions. Some of these aspects you can check yourself during the test ride.- Are there any specific reasons for selling the bike?
- How frequently was the bike used, and for what types of rides?
- Has the bike been stored indoors or outdoors?
- How is the overall condition of the bicycle frame? Are there any dents or cracks?
- When was the chain last replaced, and has the entire transmission been inspected?
- Have any components, like the cassette, or brake pads, been recently replaced?
- Do the wheels have any side-to-side play or wobbling? How are the bearings?
- Are the accessories like the saddle, seat post, stem, and handlebars in good condition?
-
What else should I know when buying a used bike?
Be aware that used bikes may have minor defects. During an inspection and test ride, make sure the bike suits you and that its condition is acceptable to you. Sellers are not obligated to take the bike back if issues arise after the sale. Ensure that everything mentioned in the listing matches the actual bike. When buying a used bike, you can check with the manufacturers to see if the warranty is still valid, even if the bike is no longer owned by the original purchaser. -
Can I return the bike?
If you bought the bike from a specialist shop, you can contact the shop directly to find out about their return policies. Shops usually have their own return conditions and will provide you with the necessary information.
If you bought the bike from a private seller, a return is generally not possible, unless you have arranged otherwise with the seller. Make sure the bike meets your expectations before confirming the handover and paying the remaining balance. -
Do I have a warranty for a used bike?
As a buyer, your satisfaction and trust when booking a bike through our platform are our top priorities.
To protect you from potential defects, we offer the TCS CarePlus warranty on selected used bikes (indicated in the listing). You can add this at the handover when paying the remaining balance for a small additional fee. With the TCS functional warranty, you’re protected against unexpected damages such as frame breakage or battery damage for 3 months from the purchase date.
Otherwise, a used bike purchase is made "as is," and neither TCS velocorner.ch nor the seller can offer any warranty.

What can I do if I have specific or technical questions about a listing? (components, price, delivery, installment payments, etc.)
Since we at TCS velocorner.ch do not sell bikes ourselves, we unfortunately cannot answer specific questions. Therefore, we recommend that you contact the seller directly. For listings from specialist shops, you can do this directly in the listing via the phone number provided or by using the inquiry function. For listings from private sellers, you can ask technical questions through the Q&A tool. For any other matters, we recommend making a non-binding reservation.
Of course, our support team is available if you are unsure how to proceed or if the process is unclear. -
Can I contact private seller without reservation?
You can contact a seller without reserving the bike. Use the “Questions and Answers” function. You will find it under the bike details. Note: It is only possible to ask questions about the bike, but not to exchange personal data. Questions and answers will be published if they are of general interest. This relieves the seller from having to answer the same question multiple times. -
What if I have several questions?
If it's a private seller, we recommend asking each question individually. This allows other buyers to benefit as well. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like after reserving the bike.
If it's a reseller, you can send an unlimited number of messages through the 'Free request' feature.
