Bike drinking bottles, bidons & holders
To stay hydrated on a bike tour, it's a good idea to have a bike drinking bottle with you. Ideally, this is located in a suitable bottle holder. This means that a drinking bottle between 0.4 and 1.0 liters in size can be placed within easy reach in the triangle frame. In different shapes and sizes, these are suitable for both classic bicycles and e-bikes.

Bidon & holder types
There are different types of bidons (drinking bottles) and holders, which vary according to requirements and preferences. Standard bidons are typically made of plastic and have a capacity of 500 to 750 millilitres. They fit into most common holders and are easily accessible while travelling. Thermo-bidons have an insulated wall that keeps drinks cool or warm for longer, which is particularly advantageous on long journeys and in extreme weather conditions. There are also special bidons for sports drinks that are equipped with mixing chambers or special lids to hold powders or concentrates. When it comes to holders, a distinction is mainly made between classic bottle cages, which are usually attached to the frame of the bike, and special holders, which can be mounted on the handlebars, saddle or even under the frame, for example. Classic bottle cages are usually designed so that the bottle can be easily inserted and removed.
Bidon & holder brands
Various brands have specialised in the manufacture of bidons and holders. Elite is a leading brand known for its innovative and functional hydration systems. CamelBak offers high-quality bidons and hydration systems that are particularly popular with endurance athletes. Tacx, another well-known brand, produces durable and ergonomic bottles and holders. Zefal and Topeak are also well-known manufacturers that offer a wide range of drinking bottles and holders that impress with their quality and design.
Materials and workmanship
The materials and workmanship are decisive for the quality and durability of bidons and holders. Bidons are usually made of BPA-free plastic, which is light, robust and harmless to health. High-quality bidons have an ergonomic design and a valve that is easy to use and leak-proof. Thermo-bidons often have a double wall made of stainless steel or aluminium, which provides excellent insulation. Bottle cages are often made of lightweight aluminium, stainless steel or composite materials such as carbon. Aluminium holders are lightweight and inexpensive, while carbon holders are particularly popular with racers due to their light weight and high strength.
Technical features
Modern bidons and holders offer numerous technical features that increase comfort and safety. Bidons often have ergonomically shaped handles and leak-proof lids that allow easy handling while riding. Some models have integrated filters that make drinking water from natural sources safer. Bottle cages are designed to provide a secure hold while still allowing the bottle to be easily removed. Some holders have adjustable brackets that can be adapted to different bottle sizes. Holders with additional safety catches or elasticated straps are particularly popular with mountain bikes, preventing the bottle from slipping out during bumpy rides.
