E-Bike Fixie

The e-bike fixie is a special type of single-speed bike. It is a bike that has only one gear and no freewheel hub. This means that the pedals keep turning. You therefore have to keep pedalling when the bike is in motion.

Buying advice for: City / Urban: Lifestyle: Fixie

  • Frame material

The frame material of an e-bike fixie can vary depending on the manufacturer and model. Steel frames are very popular for e-bike fixies. They are known for their durability, robustness and shock-absorbing properties. Aluminium frames are lighter than steel frames but still offer good durability and strength. They are generally very common on e-bikes as they offer a good balance between weight, durability and cost. Carbon frames are lightweight and offer excellent stiffness, resulting in efficient power transfer. They offer high performance and can be used on some high-quality e-bike fixies.

  • Suspension

The fork of an e-bike fixie can be made of different materials such as steel, aluminium or carbon. It contributes to the shock absorption and stability of the bike. Some e-bike fixies can have suspension to absorb bumps in the road and improve riding comfort. This can be particularly beneficial when travelling on rough roads or in urban environments.

  • Wheels

Wheel size can vary, with 700c being the most common size for fixie and road bikes. This size offers a good balance between speed and stability. Some e-bike fixies can also use 26 inch wheels, especially if they are designed for use in the city or on uneven roads. The rims of an e-bike fixie can be made of different materials such as aluminium, carbon or steel. Aluminium rims are lightweight and offer good durability, while carbon rims are even lighter and often offer better stiffness and aerodynamics. Steel rims are heavier but also very robust. The spokes contribute to the stability and strength of the wheels. They can be made of different materials such as steel or aluminium and come in different designs to optimise weight or increase stiffness.

  • Tyres

The choice of tyres for an e-bike fixie depends on various factors, including the preferred riding style, the intended use and the riding environment. Tyre size usually depends on the size of the wheels. For fixie bikes and many e-bikes, 700c tyres are typically used, but there are also models with other sizes such as 26 inch tyres. The correct tyre size should match the frame and fork of the bike. Smooth or slightly profiled tyres are ideal for use on the road, as they offer less rolling friction and ensure efficient movement. If the e-bike fixie is also used off-road, tyres with a slightly coarse tread can provide additional traction. In addition, wide tyres generally offer more comfort as they can absorb bumps better, while narrower tyres can enable a faster ride on slippery roads.

  • Brakes

Rim brakes are a common choice for fixie bikes and can also be used on e-bike fixies. These brakes offer good stopping power and are easy to maintain. Disc brakes offer improved braking performance and are generally particularly popular on e-bikes as they can provide reliable stopping power regardless of weather conditions. Some fixie bikes use a coaster brake, which is activated by the rider pedalling backwards. However, coaster brakes are less common and are not normally used on e-bikes. However, a combination of coaster and rim brakes is also a possible braking option for fixie e-bikes.

  • Battery motor

The fixie e-bike, also known as a fixed gear e-bike, is equipped with a motor that usually offers an output of 250 to 750 watts. These motors are specifically designed for use on fixed gear bikes and provide adequate assistance and acceleration for riding in urban environments. Together with a reliable battery, they provide a constant power supply for daily journeys, shopping or leisure trips.
