• Frame material

  The frame of a dirt bike can be made from a wide variety of materials. Due to its lightness and strength, aluminium is a very popular material for dirt bike frames. It is easy to handle and is resistant to corrosion. Steel frames are robust and durable, making them a good choice for off-road use. However, they are usually heavier than aluminium frames and can rust if not properly maintained. An alloy of chromium and molybdenum is best known for its high strength and durability. Chromoly frames are lighter than pure steel frames but still offer excellent strength and are often found in high-end dirt bikes. Titanium frames are extremely light and strong, but also very expensive. They offer excellent performance but are less common due to their high price.

• Chassis

  The suspension of a dirt bike is a crucial element for off-road performance and handling. There are two main types of dirt bike suspension. The telescopic forks at the front are mounted at the front of the bike and absorb shocks from the front axle. Rear shocks are mounted at the rear of the frame and support the rear suspension. It works in a similar way to the telescopic fork to absorb shocks and maintain traction. In addition to the suspension, damping systems play a crucial role in controlling the movements of the suspension system and preventing unwanted bouncing and rebounding. Dampers are used at both the front and rear to regulate the speed and degree of suspension compression. In addition, dirt bikes often have longer suspension travel to meet the demands of off-road terrain.

• Wheels

  The rims of a dirt bike must be strong and resistant to withstand the stresses of off-road riding. These are often made from aluminium alloys and can have reinforced spoke holes to increase strength. Common sizes are 21 inches for the front wheel and 18 inches for the rear wheel on motocross bikes. For enduro and trail bikes, other sizes can also be used, depending on the rider's preferences and the requirements of the terrain.

• Tyres

  The tyres of a dirt bike are specially designed for off-road use and have a tread pattern with deep lugs to provide grip on different surfaces such as mud, sand and gravel. They may also have reinforced sidewalls to prevent damage from sharp rocks or roots.

• Brakes

  Dirt bikes are equipped with powerful braking systems and have brake discs on the front and rear wheels. These are made of hardened steel and provide a large surface area for the brake pads to generate friction and slow the bike down. The brake discs can be available in different sizes, depending on the model and type of vehicle. The brake pads are made of heat-resistant material such as organic or ceramic composite and are designed to withstand high temperatures while providing good braking power. If the dirt bike has hydraulic brakes, brake fluid is used to transfer the pressure from the brake pump to the brake callipers. This must be checked regularly and changed if necessary to ensure optimum performance of the braking system. Dirt bike brakes are designed to work reliably even under extreme conditions and to enable rapid deceleration at high speeds.
