The R5 is the lightest bike that Cervélo has ever built. The carbon frame weighs 651 g, the fork 298 g, and the total bike comes in size 56 at 5.97 kg. Compared to its predecessor, the frame is 130 g lighter, 13% stiffer at the bottom bracket for more direct power transfer, and 8% more flexible at the head tube for less fatigue on long stages. The fully internal cable routing additionally reduces aerodynamic drag. Shifting is electronic with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12-Speed, and a 4iiii Dual-Sided Powermeter is integrated into the crankset. The Reserve 34|37 SL carbon wheels with DT Swiss 240 hubs are specially developed for the R5 and are 60 g lighter than the previous version. The one-piece HB18 carbon handlebar/stem saves another 150 g and makes the bike 2 watts more aerodynamic. The geometry has been aligned with that of the S5, allowing for a seamless transition between both platforms without adjustment.
