Equipped with the new Shimano 105 Di2 groupset featuring 12 gears, which has convinced even the last skeptic, along with the fast-rolling Turbo Pro tires in 700 × 26 mm size, the new Tarmac SL7 Comp delivers performance at an affordable price. Aerodynamics were a priority in designing the Tarmac, as with all our racing bikes, while weight consistently remains a co-pilot on this quest for the optimal race bike. Previously, aero bikes were always associated with compromises in weight—material had to be added in critical places to reduce drag. With the Tarmac SL7, our singular aim was to keep the weight at or below the UCI weight limit, without sacrificing aerodynamics. Using the FreeFoil Shape Library, isotopic finite element analysis (FEA), and a touch of engineering expertise from the industry's best engineers, we achieved just that. The FACT 9r carbon frame weighs only 1010 g while maintaining aerodynamics, stiffness, and ride quality. In our pursuit of creating the perfect racing bike, we adhere to our Rider First Engineered™ philosophy. The Tarmac SL7 was meant to be the most balanced and best-handling Tarmac, regardless of frame size. With insights from top athletes in our three World Tour teams—SD Worx, Soudal Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe—we made adjustments to the Tarmac based on their experiences from thousands of kilometers ridden. We balanced the ride quality between the front and rear wheels, ensuring that even the longest days in the saddle remain comfortable. Of course, this does not come at the expense of the legendary handling and racing speed that the Tarmac is known for. Building on the knowledge gained from the Venge's development, the Tarmac SL7 features straightforward integrations for a clean and, importantly, fast cockpit. We have improved cable routing for every component configuration—mechanical shifters, traditional stems, round handlebars, and so on—while still maintaining aerodynamic attributes. The same features also ease service work on the Tarmac SL7 and transport from race to race.
