The S-Works Tarmac SL8 is unbeatable in speed. Its advanced aerodynamics and lightweight construction deliver a ride quality that seemed unattainable. After eight generations and over twenty years of development, it is not just the fastest Tarmac ever made – it’s the fastest racing bike in the world. Are you ready?
Aerodynamics and low weight alone do not win races – what counts at the finish line is speed. To achieve race speed, a specific balance of aerodynamics, lightweight, stiffness, and compliance is required. Our Ride Science Team discovered through racing simulations using real data that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest racing bike ever built on critical segments. It is a full 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km, 128 seconds quicker at Milano–Sanremo, and 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet.
AERO-AVANTGARDE: For us, aerodynamic surfaces are what truly matter, not just those that look good. With this philosophy, we have created our most aerodynamic racing bike ever. And yes, it is more aerodynamic than the Venge. The redesigned head tube of the Tarmac SL8 maintains airflow better, as the surface at the front tapers to a point. We call it the Speed Sniffer, and with it, the streamlined cross-section of the head tube generates significantly less air resistance. In addition, in accordance with the new UCI regulations for the Tarmac SL8, we developed the narrowest and most aerodynamic Specialized seat post ever, allowing fast-moving turbulent air to flow around the legs cleanly. This bike has a keen sense for victory.
MINIMAL WEIGHT, MAXIMAL AERO: The Tarmac SL8 utilizes insights from the development of the Aethos and effortlessly meets the UCI weight limit, even with a complete aero setup. Our team has developed an incredible frame weighing 685 grams – 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike in the World Tour. That Kasper Asgreen rode our Aethos, which has a frame weight of just 585 grams, on a Tour stage doesn't really count. The new technical possibilities enabled us to optimize the weight of the down tube, seat tube, and rear end on the Tarmac, as the new frame shape distributes the load so efficiently that additional carbon layers for more stiffness are no longer necessary.
