For a first foray into the world of lightweight electric mountain biking, Yeti has really hit the mark.
On climbs, I didn't find much satisfaction with the TQ motor, which seems better suited for a XC e-MTB or a gravel model than for a bike closer to a small enduro. However, the arrival of the update, which now offers 55 Nm and 350 watts of assistance, has significantly improved climbing performance in off-road conditions, making it much more enjoyable and efficient compared to the previous version.
From there, I quickly understood how the system worked and how to use it to get the most out of it and fully enjoy the experience. As I went on my rides, I got used to the small motor's performance and, by leveraging the many qualities of the Yeti MTe's chassis, I managed to tackle climbs I never thought possible with a TQ motor, including some quite steep and technical sections.
It's the excellent carbon frame of this bike, with its unique kinematics and radial tires, that compensates for the lack of power and torque on significant elevation gains. The Yeti demonstrates an incredible ability to assist its rider in challenging sections, which is truly impressive.
On descents, the MTe reveals all its potential, offering the sensation of riding an enduro mountain bike without a motor. Stable, maneuverable, fast, and precise, it remains quite comfortable despite its great rigidity. In summary, I had a lot of fun with this bike and consider it an excellent surprise. Even though it doesn't have the most powerful lightweight motor on the market, it is undoubtedly the best lightweight electric mountain bike I have had the chance to test! This proves that a good bike can really make a difference.
I highly recommend that those who can afford such an e-MTB, wishing to transition between muscle bikes and lightweight assistance, try the Yeti MTe. Whether climbing or descending, they will almost feel like they are riding an enduro mountain bike without a motor or battery, while still benefiting from smooth pedaling assistance that won't make them feel like they're in another dimension. A must-try!
