Frame material
Aluminium frames are widely used for e-bike dirt bikes. They offer a good combination of strength, rigidity and light weight, making them ideal for off-road use. Aluminium frames are relatively inexpensive and offer good durability. Carbon frames are lighter than aluminium frames and offer excellent stiffness and damping. They absorb vibrations well and offer a responsive ride quality. However, carbon frames are often more expensive than aluminium frames and can be more susceptible to damage from crashes. Steel frames were popular in the past but are less common nowadays. Steel frames are robust and offer a comfortable ride quality as they absorb vibrations well. However, they are usually heavier than aluminium or carbon frames. The choice of frame material often depends on personal preference, riding style and budget. Aluminium frames are a popular choice for e-bike dirt bikes due to their durability and affordability.
Chassis
E-bike dirt bikes are often equipped with suspension to absorb shocks and vibrations on uneven terrain. This can include a front suspension fork and rear shock to provide full suspension. These suspension components are specifically designed to improve riding comfort and give the rider more control over the bike on technical trails. E-bike dirt bikes are often equipped with long travel suspension to handle the challenges of off-road riding. Typically, dirt bikes have suspension travel ranging from 100 mm to 200 mm or more, depending on the vehicle class and intended use.
Wheels
Rims must be robust and resistant to withstand the stresses of off-road riding. For e-bike dirt bikes, aluminium alloy rims are generally used, which offer a good combination of strength and weight. The rims should also have a wide inner width to accommodate wider tyres and provide better traction and stability. In addition to robust rims, high-quality spokes are also very important for e-bike dirt bike wheels. They are crucial for the stability and durability of the wheels. Stainless steel spokes are a good choice as they are robust and durable. The spokes should also be evenly tensioned to ensure a strong and stable wheel.
Tyres
The width of the tyres affects the stability, traction and damping of the bike. Wider tyres generally offer a larger contact surface with the ground and therefore improved traction. For e-bike dirt bikes, tyres between 2.2 and 2.6 inches wide are often used to achieve a good balance between traction and weight. For an e-bike dirt bike, tyres with an aggressive tread pattern are preferred to provide good grip on loose surfaces, mud, rocks and other difficult conditions. Deep lugs and an open tread help to penetrate mud and dirt and ensure good traction.
Brakes
Most modern e-bike dirt bikes are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes that provide reliable and powerful braking performance. Disc brakes have the advantage of working well in a variety of conditions, including wet and muddy conditions. The size of the brake discs is an important factor in the braking performance of an e-bike dirt bike. Larger brake discs usually offer improved cooling and better braking power, especially on longer descents or at higher speeds. Typical brake disc sizes for e-bike dirt bikes are between 160 and 203 mm in diameter.
Battery motor
A typical dirt bike-style e-bike is equipped with a motor that offers an output of around 500 to 2000 watts. These powerful motors have been specially developed for use on challenging off-road routes. They enable rapid acceleration and overcome obstacles with ease. Combined with a robust battery, they offer reliable performance for longer off-road journeys.
